bookings confirmations and payment

To confirm your rental reservation with Adventure Vans New Zealand we require a deposit of NZ$400.00 to secure your booking. You can pay your deposit by credit card, cash, cheque or direct debit. The balance owed for your hire to Adventure Vans must be paid in full 30 days prior to collection of the rental vehicle, unless prior arrangements have been made.

Please ensure you read our information within regarding cancellation fees.

cancellations

Once a rental booking with Adventure Vans has been confirmed and the NZ$400.00 deposit paid the booking is considered live and is subject to our cancellation policy.

Cancellations received more than 21 days prior to the date reservation will be refunded less a 3% administration fee.

Reservations cancelled within the 7-21 day period incur a fee being 15% of rental value.

Within 7 days 50% of hire will be charged.

No show 100% of total reservation cost.

hire period

When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time.

The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental.

When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.

our minimum rental period is 7 days.

Late pick up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.

one-way rentals

One-way rentals are available between Auckland and Christchurch or vice versa.

road restrictions

Vehicles hired from Adventure Vans New Zealand are permitted to only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well maintained roads.

Our rental vehicles are NOT PERMITTED to be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook) and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula).

Adventure Vans reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

driver licence

A full resident country driver’s licence, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the licence is not in English format, an international drivers licence is also required.

Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.

extra driver fees

An extra driver fee of NZ$50.00 per additional driver is required.

late returns

Late returns will be charged on a per day basis.

credit cards

If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer.

The following credit cards will be accepted: Visa Card, Mastercard, American Express, Diners.

exchange rate / currency variations

All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Adventure Vans New Zealand does not accept any liability for variances up or down.

rental extension

If you wish to extend your vehicle rental period whilst on hire then you must first obtain authorisation from Adventure Vans Reservations Centre in Auckland. Approval is subject to availability and the extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension.

Failure to obtain authorisation for your rental extension will result in a fee of NZ$500.00 in addition to the daily rate. Adventure Vans allows a grace period of 24 hours before the hirer is liable for the late return fee.

insurance excess / road user charge options

Adventure Vans rates include standard cover insurance, however the below insurance excess options and Road User Charge (RUC) options are available to our customers and can be decided upon collection of rental vehicle.

Full Excess Option
Adventure Vans will require a bond of NZ$ 5000.00 which is the excess on the insurance and is taken as a credit card imprint only - this is only charged in the event of damage or accident.

Reduced Excess Option
A reduced excess option is also available for an additional NZ$16.00 per day, this will reduce the excess (Bond) to NZ$2500.00, this is also taken as a credit card imprint only - this is only charged in the event of damage or accident.

No Worries Pack
A full insurance option is also available for an additional NZ$49.00 per day, this will reduce the excess (Bond) to NZ$250.00, this is also taken as a credit card imprint only - this is only charged in the event of damage or accident. Includes unlimited kms, camping table and outdoor chairs / Gas BBQ / Toilet Chemical / Starter pack.

exclusions

• Personal belongings are not covered. We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
• All Excess Reduction is void if the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by wilful conduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• The Hirer will be responsible for the cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged, regardless of the LDW (Loss and Damage Waiver) being taken.

The hirer will be responsible for the cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.

• Overhead and underbody damage, all damage above the level of the driver cabin and the underbody of the vehicle is the hirers liability for the full cost of repairs.
  

security deposit

A security deposit of NZ$350.00 is required on collection of your rental vehicle from Adventure Vans to ensure your campervan/motorhome is returned on the due date, complete as taken, and in a clean condition. If your vehicle is returned in an un-clean condition you will be charged a NZ$100.00 cleaning fee from your security deposit.

Toilet and wastewater tanks must be emptied on rental vehicle return or a NZ$150.00 fee will be charged from your security deposit.

As LPG gas bottles are given full on vehicle collection, we request that they be returned to full otherwise a fee of NZ$20.00 per bottle will be charged to your security deposit.

All traffic fines will be charged against your security deposit with a NZ$150.00 handling/representation fee per fine. The security deposit will be cancelled on vehicle return provided the above conditions are met.

Overhead and under body damage: all damage above the drivers cabin and the under body of the vehicle is the hirers liability for the full costs of repairs.

on-road assistance (7.00am to 8.00pm)

Any problems associated with your rental vehicle from Adventure Vans, including equipment failure, must be reported to us as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give Adventure Vans the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

change of drop off destination

If the hirer wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from Adventure Vans Reservations Centre in Auckland. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of NZ$150.00 will apply.

repairs

Repairs up to NZ$100.00 may be carried out without authorisation from Adventure Vans and will be reimbursed. For amounts over NZ$100.00, Adventure Vans will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.

change of vehicle

Should the rental vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Adventure Vans reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.

voluntary downgrade

Should the hirer decide to take a smaller vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.

Adventure Vans reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.

animals

No animals are permitted in Adventure Vans rental vehicles.

personal and company cheques

Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be paid to Adventure Vans 14 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit.
